We had the pleasure of staying at Xela, one of the Hotel Zone’s newest boutiques and one of the few retreats to stand out on Tulum’s coastline. With its pink clay and open-concept design, seamless transitions from indoor to outdoor, Xela’s architecture is incredibly chic and easily identifiable.

The central focus of the open-concept lobby is the “conversation pit”— the lounge area embedded within the floor to create an intimate space for guests to gather. But arguably Xela’s most prominent feature? The rooftop showcasing a 360° view of Tulum. With the Mayan Jungle in one direction and the Caribbean Sea in the other, this was the most awe-inspiring place to watch the sun both rise and set.
